Prof. Dr. Merab Chukhua Calls on the International Community to Recognize the Circassian Genocide

According to Report.az, speaking at the international conference "Cultural and Ethnic Diversity: Lessons from History, Contemporary Challenges" held in Shusha, Professor Chukhua stated that only around ten percent of the Circassian population currently lives in its historical homeland, while approximately ninety percent is dispersed across the world.

Professor Chukhua emphasized that one of the principal goals of the Circassian people is to facilitate the return of the descendants of those who were forcibly deported by the Russian Empire to the Ottoman Empire, allowing them to resettle in their ancestral homeland.

Citing estimates by American researchers, he noted that the global Circassian population exceeds six million, with large diaspora communities living in Türkiye, Germany, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, France, the United States, Israel, and the Netherlands.

Concluding his remarks, Professor Chukhua urged the international community to officially recognize the Circassian Genocide.
