Published by Brill in 2026 as part of the Iran and the Caucasus Monographs series and available open access, this volume by Polish historian Przemysław Adamczewski offers the most comprehensive English-language study to date of Polish émigré engagement with the Caucasus during the nineteenth century. Drawing on Polish archival sources, internal documents of the Hôtel Lambert organization headed by Prince Adam Czartoryski, and memoirs largely unavailable in English, the book traces Polish involvement in the region from the 1830s through the fall of Circassia in 1864, covering the Vixen affair, the activities of David Urquhart and Władysław Zamoyski, and the successive missions of Zwierkowski, Gordon, Łapiński, and Przewłocki.

For researchers working on Circassian history, the fourth chapter is of particular value. It documents in detail the network of contacts that developed between Polish émigré circles and Circassian leaders, as well as the broader diplomatic context in which British, Ottoman, and Polish interests intersected around the question of Circassian independence. The chapter also sheds light on how contemporaries — including Czartoryski's agents in Istanbul — perceived the political situation in the Western Caucasus during the critical decades preceding 1864.
